Fiechtl Flies High in Javelin to Lead Raptors

Patrick Fiechtl throws javelin

Twenty six schools from three states and all kinds of bad weather stood in Ravenwood's way at the annual March Madness invitational, but the Raptors finished strong with 122 points, pacing all Tennessee teams and finishing second only to East St. Louis High School from Illinois.

The standard six field events were contested with a light drizzle, leaving most athletes soaked by the time they were done. Donovan Starr won the high jump and John Bass placed third in the long jump. In the throws, John Mark Coggin was your champion in the discus, with Patrick Fiechtl placing 5th, while Fiechtl placed 2nd in shot with Coggin taking 7th.

Saturday marked the first time in school history that athletes got to throw the javelin in a school meet, and they did not disappoint. Patrick Fiechtl set a school record with a throw of 133' 5", with John Bass just a few inches behind him. John Mark Coggin was third as Ravenwood took all 24 points in the event.

Things got off to a great start on the track as the 4x800m relay team of Cole Montgomery, Wesley Franklin, Drew Carter, and Caleb MacDonald were runners up. John Bass (2nd) and Clayton Blanton (3rd) scored 14 points in the 100m hurdles. In the 100m, Donovan Starr (4th) and John Bass (6th) ran hard into the headwind. The 4x200m relay of James Nelson, Jaeden Morris, Mark Moglia, and Kyle King placed seventh, as did the 4x100m team of Jaden Smitherman, Trey Hallett, Jackson Han, and Cole Bennett. Trey Hallett was runner up in the 400m, with Alex Osburn taking 8th. Clayton Blanton placed third in the 300m hurdles. Kevin Rocha (4th) and AJ Algood (6th) both placed in the 3200m, and the 4x400m squad of Clayton Blanton, Andrew Fitch, Caleb MacDonald, and Cole Montgomery scored the last point with their 8th place finish.

For the weekend, the boys scored 122 points. They'll be running, jumping, throwing, and vaulting again this week at Brentwood's Scott Hartman Relays.
