Rocha Wins 1600m and 800m for Raptors

Kevin Rocha wins the 1600m

As the dawn of a new season approaches, fans often ask how the team is going to be. Nobody knows for sure until you start competing, but from the looks of things Wednesday afternoon, Ravenwood's boys track & field team is going to be pretty good.

The field events got underway first, with Donovan Starr winning the high jump. Nate Lamb was runner up and Rocco Lamuno and Andrew Fitch also scored. Nathan Okubazgi won the long jump, with Clayton Blanton right behind him. In the throws, Ravenwood went 1-4 in the shot with Patrick Fiechtl, Mark Covey, John Mark Coggin, and Elliott Hampton showing off their strength. John Mark and Patrick flipped positions in the discus, with Mark claiming 4th and Elliot snagging 8th.

The success continued on the track, highlighted by freshman Kevin Rocha going straight to the front in the 1600m and going on to win in dominating fashion, clocking a 4:35. He also won the 800m, winning a down to the wire thriller. Caleb MacDonald and Cole Montgomery also scored in the 800m, and AJ Algood was 3rd in the 1600m.

In the 100m, Femi Babalola brought home the win, with Caden Pace finishing 3rd and Nathan Okubazgi finishing 7th. Femi also placed 3rd in the 200m, with Rocco finishing 7th and Nathan 8th.

Clayton Blanton continued his big day in the hurdles, finishing 2nd in the 110s and 1st in the 300s. Andrew Fitch was 5th in the 110s and 4th in the 300s, and Trip Robold placed 5th in the 300s.

There was no 4x800m or 4x200m, but both the 4x100m (Jaeden Morris, Femi Babalola, Luke Simmons, and Kyle King) and the 4x400m (Clayton Blanton, Kevin Rocha, Caleb MacDonald, Drew Carter) relays placed 2nd.

Team scores from an early March tri meet don't really matter much in the big scheme of things, but Ravenwood beat Nolensville by 36 and Page by 72. Next up - 26 teams will be at Ravenwood March 22nd and 23rd for the March Madness Track & Field Invitational.
