Jordan Sets Javelin Record, Leads Lady Raptors

Kate Jordan throws the javelin

Ravenwood's annual March Madness invitational boasted a field of 27 schools from 3 states and a variety of extreme weather. Friday was balmy, but once the rain started falling it did not let up. Saturday was sunny and beautiful, but the gale force winds made the air feel much colder than it actually was. Through it all, Ravenwood's Lady Raptors competed hard, turning in several great performances, even if the marks did not reflect the effort.

The standard six field events were contested Friday, with freshmen Sophie Crossman (high jump) and Anna Keeney (long jump) both winning their events. Kate Jordan placed second in the triple jump, with Grace Potter nabbing fifth. In the throws, Emery Wilson was seventh in the discus while Sabrina Egariwevwe was fourth in the shot.

On Saturday morning, athletes competed in the javelin for the first time in school history. Junior Kate Jordan won with a school record throw of 94'. Anna Keeney was runner up and Emery Wilson was third.

Running into a blustering headwind kept times modest, but the 4x800m relay of Amara Hughes, Ashley Yeung, Olivia Shaw, and Menaal Javed placed 4th, Anna Keeney got 4th in the 100m hurdles, Ashlyn Twyman placed 5th in the 1600m and the 800m, Kate Jordan was runner up in the 300m hurdles, and Isabella Bolinger took home 4th in the 3200m.

The girls racked up 102 points to finish runners up behind Page.

The Lady Raptors will be back in action this Wednesday and Thursday at the Scott Hartman Relays.
