Love Leads Lady Raptors

Kate Jordan and Sydney Love in the 100m dash

All of Ravenwood's points at the 2023 state championship meet came from seniors, so the 2024 roster has big shoes to fill, but plenty of opportunities. The season got off to a strong start Wednesday with sophomore Sydney Love racking up 28 points in 3 events to pace Ravenwood.

Competition began with the field events. Sydney won the high jump, with Sophie Crossman finishing 3rd and Grace Potter, who just committed to Sewanee, placing 4th. In the pole vault, sophomore Grace Kelley was runner up. Grace won the triple jump. Freshman Sabrina Egariwevwe won the shot put, with fellow freshman Emery Wilson finishing 3rd. In the discus, Emery was 3rd and Sabrina was 5th.

In the 100m, Sydney placed 2nd, Kate Jordan was 6th, and Reese Mackenzie was 7th. Sydney won the 200m, with Kennedi Quarles taking 3rd and Reese finishing 6th. Kennedi also placed 3rd in the 400m, with Kinstrey Winstead placing 8th.

Ashlyn Twyman, Amara Hughes, Menaal Javed, and Isabella Bolinger all scored in the 800m, and Isabella and Olivia Shaw scored in the 1600m.

Kate Jordan was runner up in the 300m hurdles.

Only 3 of Ravenwood's scorers were upperclassmen, so this is a young team, but it's a team with a bright future. Next up - 26 teams come to Ravenwood for the annual March Madness Track & Field Invitational.
