BRENTWOOD – For the first time in six years the Ravenwood High School softball team picked up a season sweep against archival Brentwood in the Battle of the Woods series.

The Lady Raptors posted a 6-2 District 11-AAA win Tuesday at RHS pulling away with three runs in the third and two more in the fourth.

"It's always great to beat Brentwood," said Ravenwood coach Allison Brown, whose team also claimed a 4-2 victory at Brentwood on March 23. "We are still working on pushing the limits, but still playing to our strengths."

Senior Avery Wissmar kept the Lady Bruins bats at bay as the hurler struck out 17 surrendering just one earned on three hits to go with a trio of walks. Wissmar also went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Ravenwood.

"Avery pitched a solid game and had some good bats behind her today," Brown said. "Ella Sasser is really seeing the ball well. Camilla Wilbanks, Hailey Donato and Gracie Bennett have all been highlights in our lineup."

Sasser stole home to score the first run of the contest. She added a two-RBI single in the bottom of the third, while Wissmar followed with a single that also drove in a run to make it 4-1 Ravenwood. Brentwood's first run opened the frame after Emily Cockrill smacked a grounder to the mound to score Morgan Salmon.

Ravenwood extended their lead to 6-1 in the bottom of the fourth after Linley Pittman and Lexi Erickson both drove in runs.

Brentwood kicked off the fifth with a Cockrill triple, but Wissmar picked up two Ks and a ground out to strand the runner in scoring position. Brentwood had 11 runners left on base. Wissmar surrendered a bases-loaded walk in the sixth, but closed the top of the frame with a four-pitch strikeout. She sat the final three batters as well, including throwing three consecutive strikes to end the contest in the seventh.

Ravenwood improved to 8-9 overall heading into a home game against Brentwood Academy Friday. Brentwood is scheduled to play at Wilson Central Wednesday and at Independence Thursday.

"We are excited about the win today, but looking forward to getting better and improving as we reach the back end of our season," Brown said.
