Softball scores late to tip district opponents Brentwood, Independence

An error with two outs in the top of the seventh scored two runs for the Lady Raptors, who held on for the District 11-AAA road win in the first installment of the Battle of the Woods Tuesday at Granny White Park.

Brentwood's Emily Cockrill sandwiched a single to Ravenwood's Lexi Erickson with a ground out and pop up for a second out, but a hit batter and walk loaded the bases in the seventh. Cameron Taylor hit a grounder toward third and reached on an error scoring both Erickson and Avery Wissmar

Wissmar closed the contest with back-to-back strike outs and a line out to first for the Lady Raptors. Wissmar struck out 12 in seven innings of work and allowed two runs on five hits with five walks.

Cockrill was tagged with loss, forfeiting seven hits with two earned, a pair of Ks and four walks.

Erickson and Ella Sasser both collected two hits with Erickson scoring two runs.

Sasser drove in both the early runs for the Lady Raptors with single in the top of the third and a two-out double to left in the fifth.

Reese Neill and Morgan Salmon both had two hits for Brentwood. Salmon's two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth tied the game at 2-2.

The Raptors also capped off Wednesday afternoon with another big district win over Independence. Avery Wissmar had 10 strikeouts on the night. Linley Pittman with the save and 2 strikeouts. Linley also with a triple and 3 RBI. Hailey Donato went 2 for 3 and scored the winning run on Camilla Wilbank's single.
