Lady Raptors Take Another District Win Against Independence

The Ravenwood Girls Varsity Soccer team defeated Independence High School 2-0 Thursday night advancing their record to 5-0 for the season. Following a 30 minute lightning-delay, Ravenwood came out strong when Maddie Gleason found the back of the net off of a beautiful up-field drive and assist from Josie Ricketts making the score 1-0. Independence was not going down easy, however, causing Faith Vanston to make several tremedous saves in goal sending the Eagles into half-time scoreless. The lady Raptors were not content and continued their bold offensive stragegy in the second half with the midfield battling hard sending several beautiful balls to the front line only to be shut down by the Independence defense. Patience and hard work finally paid off late in the second half when a goal by Anna Augustini gave the Raptors a 2-0 lead. Independence countered with several attacks on the Raptor goal but were held off by the relentless Ravenwood defense led by Abigail White and Sarah Cloud. It looked like the Raptors had one more in them with a beauty of a cross from Anna Major to Maddie Gleason that just missed the mark. The Lady Raptors are at Franklin next Thursday, September 20th at 7:00 pm for a game that promises to be epic.
