Football Preview: Summit, Ravenwood, Page open playoffs at home

Williamson County's seven Division I high school football teams begin the postseason journey to Chattanooga for a state championship on Friday.

Summit and Ravenwood in Class 6A and Page in Class 5A will host postseason openers. Here's a closer look at the full slate of Division I playoff games:

CLASS 6A

Houston (6-4) at Summit (10-0)

For the first time, the Spartans closed the regular season unbeaten. Now, the reigning Class 5A state champions will begin their quest for another title in Class 6A Friday by hosting a gritty Houston team.

Mr. Football contender Destin Wade leads the Spartans with 1,463 yards rushing and 21 touchdowns. He's also thrown 918 yards and 13 scores with just one interception. Wade is guiding an offense scoring more than 40 points per game with plenty of weapons in brother Keaten Wade, Brady Pierce and Dominick Hollis, among others.

Pierce has produced five straight games with at least 100 all-purpose yards. Pierce, Keaten Wade and Finley Jameson lead the team in tackles with all recording at least 52, including 13.5 tackles for loss for Keaten Wade.

The Mustangs are coming off a 49-6 win at White Station. Damon Sisa and Jaylen Momen have each gained about 600 yards on the ground with 17 combined touchdowns to lead the Houston offense, which is averaging 31 points per game. Senior QB Jeremiah Salem has thrown for more than 1,100 yards with nine TDs.

Whitehaven (7-3) at Ravenwood (8-2)

The last time these two teams tangled, it came in the 2018 semifinals with a Tigers' 43-24 win. Ravenwood owned the previous two postseason matchup wins when they reached the Class 6A finals in 2014 and 2015 with wins over Whitehaven in the semifinals.

On Friday, the Tigers make the trek to Brentwood in a juicy first-round showdown. Only two teams have scored more than 20 points against Whitehaven this season, which has allowed just six points in the last three games and averages just 19.1 points given up per game.

The Raptors offense will get boosted with the return of Chris Parson under center this week. The junior quarterback sat out last week's 20-10 win over Independence that clinched Region 7-6A's second seed for the Raptors.

Parson has thrown for more than 1,100 yards and rushed for more than 600 this season.

The 20 points for Ravenwood last week set a season low for a team that scored 107 points in the previous two contests combined.

Brentwood (6-4) at Germantown (8-2)

For the fifth time in the last six games, Brentwood senior running back Scott Collins rushed for more than 100 yards last week in a convincing 37-7 win at Centennial to clinch a playoff berth.

The senior has played a big role in helping the Bruins turn around a 1-4 start. Brentwood won five consecutive games to end the regular season. Collins racked up 195 yards and three touchdowns in last week's win. He also caught three passes from QB Davis White for 45 yards.

White guides the offense by completing 69% of his passes for more than 2,200 yards this season with 21 touchdowns. He's played turnover-free over five games as well.

Both players will have to be on their game at Germantown to try and match a potent Red Devils offense. Germantown has won three straight, outscoring opponents 159-7 during that stretch.

Independence (4-6) at Collierville (10-0)

The Eagles face the tall task of traveling to Collierville Friday in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs. The No. 4 seed from Region 7-6A will take on the unbeaten Region 8-6A winners.

The Dragons defense has slowed everyone they've faced all season. Collierville has come away with 15 interceptions and 21 sacks through 10 games. Arlington fell 45-14 last week in the regular-season finale but was the only team to score multiple touchdowns against the Dragons this season.

Joe Cummings has thrown for more than 2,500 yards with 24 touchdowns to 11 interceptions to lead the Eagles, which have proven to be able to stack up points quickly with big targets in Jack Rummell, River Katina and Ty Lockwood.

Tre Hartwell has also rushed for 819 yards and nine TDs to lead the Indy ground attack.

Houston Wilhelm leads the Collierville offense with nearly 1,500 yards passing and 15 touchdowns. Troy Martin has 919 yards on the ground with 13 rushing scores.

A win would earn Indy a rematch at Ravenwood in the second round.

CLASS 5A

Wilson Central (6-4) at Page (9-1)

The Patriots will host a Wilson Central team that earned Region 5-5A's fourth playoff spot with a tough 24-16 win over Hillsboro last week.

Jake McNamara is coming off another multi-touchdown performance in a 35-6 win over Lincoln County. The senior quarterback threw for 306 yards and four touchdowns and has more than 2,200 yards passing and 27 TDs on the year.

Seven different Patriot receivers have hauled in touchdown passes this year, led by Boyce Smith, who has collected 39 receptions for 652 yards and 10 TDs.

This will be the first meeting between the two programs. Both teams exited after the first round last season.

Nolensville (4-6) at Station Camp (8-2)

The Knights will trek to Gallatin Friday for a first-round matchup in the first meeting with Station Camp.

The Knights closed the regular season with back-to-back wins over Franklin and Franklin County and will face a Bison team that suffered two losses in the last three games after a 7-0 start.

Coby Walton guides the Knights offense with more than 2,500 yards passing. Samson Johnson has rushed for more than 600 yards and is also one of four receivers with more than 500 yards as well.

CLASS 3A

Fairview (6-4) at Smith County (5-5)

The Yellow Jackets suffered a 49-14 loss to Waverly last week to slip into the third seed in Region 6-3A. They will travel to face the Owls Friday.

Smith County's only Region 5 loss came last week when East Nashville blasted the Owls at home 39-0.

Layden Grant leads the Fairview offense this season by rushing for 134.5 yards per game with 16 total touchdowns.
