BRENTWOOD – Ravenwood christened its new turf field with a huge win Friday night, and the Raptors made it look easy against the Franklin Admirals in a 46-10 victory.

"I'm proud of the guys and the effort they gave," Raptor coach Will Hester said. "We just caught (Franklin) at the right time."

Hester's team rolled up nearly 500 yards of offense and Raptor quarterback Chris Parson accounted for three of his team's scores, two passing and one rushing. Parson finished with 275 total yards from scrimmage, and was 9-of-14 passing in the Region 7-6A opener for both teams.

Franklin's lone TD came on a Rocco Panaia run with under a minute to play in the game, after Ravenwood had put the game out of reach. The Admirals are having some growing pains under first-year coach Alex Melton as the touchdown run was the first of the season.

"We weren't attacking up front, and we were playing passive and soft," Melton said. "We weren't reading our keys, and we didn't execute."

The Ravenwood defense limited Franklin to just 51 yards passing while recording nine tackles for loss. Admirals QB Cooper Brown stayed under pressure the entire game.

"We've just got to keep working to get better, and we have to check effort on every play," Melton said.

Offensively, the Raptors (2-1) were firing on all cylinders, with three different players scoring two TDs each – Kartuah Chapman, Carter Pace and Lee Molette. The only hiccup was special teams, where Ravenwood kickers missed three point-after attempts.

"We had turned the ball over a bunch in the first two games, so we wanted to be more cognizant of taking care of the football," Hester said.

After racing out to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter, the Raptors kept the pressure on and opened up a 33-3 halftime advantage. Chapman got the scoring started just 19 seconds into the game with an 85-yard TD run to ignite the Raptor faithful.

Save for a 21-yard Owen Saltmarsh field goal, the Admirals had little to get excited about in the first half. They either punted or turned the ball over on seven of their first eight possessions. Ravenwood's defense also held Franklin to just 1-of-9 on third down conversions.

Franklin (0-3) returns home to face Stewarts Creek next week, while the Raptors will take on Life Academy from Virginia.
