STATE QUARTERFINALS RECAP - Brentwood

STATE QUARTERFINALS RECAP - Brentwood

The Raptors advanced to the TSSAA Class 6A Semifinals with a 34-6 win at Brentwood High School Friday and will host undefeated Houston next week with a championship berth on the line.

The meeting was the 20th between the two schools only separated by about eight miles. It squares the series record at 10 wins apiece overall. Brentwood defeated Ravenwood in the regular season 25-14 this year and 31-28 last season to win the Region 6-6A crown for the second consecutive season, but the Raptors had the Bruins number in the postseason again. They won 47-24 last year to reach the semis and suffocated the Bruins offense Friday to advance once more.

Garcia connected with Jake Brinningstool on a 16-yarder with 8:22 to play in the first to open the scoring. The touchdown came on the heels of a Luke Akers missed 41-yard field goal attempt that hit the right upright. Andrew Mason followed a three-and-out from the Raptors defense with a 38-yard return and Garcia found his big target in Briningstool just two plays later for the TD. Akers, a Mr. Football Kicker of the Year Finalist, connected on a 40-yarder for the Raptors late in the first and tacked on a 28-yard field goal in the third and had touchbacks on all his kickoffs.
