Home Sweet Home: Raptors Victorious in Home Opener After Battles in Florida

Over spring break, the Raptors traveled to Jacksonville, Florida to compete against five fierce competitors. The Raptors gave it their all as they played these tough teams, four of whom are nationally ranked. Over the course of the week, sophomore Ben Severance and junior Shane Craig lead the team at bat.  Zane Denton, a senior, added a big home run to keep the offense confident. On the pitcher's mound, junior Brian Garcia's pitches kept the team going. They ended a trying week with a record of 2-3.

The Raptors were happy to return and have a homefield win on Monday, March 25th, after the long week in Florida. Craig threw a gem on Monday for the Raptors, allowing zero runs and besting Franklin by a score of 10-0. Sherrill led the Raptors to victory by driving in four runs. He went 3-for-3 at the plate. Sherrill drove in runs on a single in the second, a home run in the fourth, and a double in the sixth. The Raptors scored five runs in the sixth inning. The offensive firepower by the Raptors was led by Lawson Evans, Severance, Sherrill, and James Clifford, who all drove in runs. A single by Jackson Jarvis in the second inning was a positive for Franklin. Craig toed the rubber for the Raptors. He lasted six innings, allowing five hits and zero runs while striking out four and walking one. Josh Garretson led things off on the mound for Franklin. He went five innings, allowing five runs on eight hits and striking out six. Jarvis threw two-thirds of an inning out of the bullpen. The Raptors tallied one home run on the day. Sherrill had a dinger in the fourth inning.

In all, the Raptors racked up ten hits. Sherrill and Denton all had multiple hits for the Raptors. Sherrill went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Raptors in hits. The Raptors didn't commit a single error in the field. Garcia had the most chances in the field with six.
