Baseball Opens Season Under New Leadership, With Same Goals

The Ravenwood baseball team is excited to kickoff the 2019 season. Head Coach Danny Borne says, "the players have been working hard in the weight room and participating in baseball skill work since the end of August to prepare for this season.  The seniors have shown great leadership and work ethic throughout the entire offseason. The coaches and players are looking forward to a great season.  The goal every year is to get better each and every day and be playing our best baseball in May for the district playoffs."

Zane Denton is leading the Raptors offensively this year as a four year starter and a Preseason All-American at the plate. Additionally, Blake Bevis, Thomas Cooper, Lawson Evans, and Jackson Sherrill will provide power in the offensive lineup. The Raptors will have speed and versatility this season with the help of Ben Callahan, James Clifford, Shane Craig, Brian Garcia, and Ben Severance.

On the mound, this year the Raptors are led by Ben Callahan, Shane Craig, and Brian Garcia as starting pitchers. In addition, Blake Bevis, Bobby Bevis, Thomas Cooper, Alex Sterling, Myles Denton, Zane Denton, Jackson Sherrill, and Chase Piotrowski will provide depth in the bullpen.

Leading the team on defense will be the starting catcher James Clifford. Playing in the infield will be Blake Bevis, Thomas Cooper, Shane Craig, Zane Denton, and Ben Severance. The outfield will include various combinations of Brian Garcia, Lawson Evans, Jackson Sherrill, and Tyler Petro.

The team celebrates opening day today with a district tilt against Summit to be played at Vanderbilt University's Charles Hawkin Field at 5:30 PM.  What a way to start the year; good luck boys!
